Blepharitis and Blephex Treatment
Do you suffer from gritty or itchy eyes? Do your eyes feel crusty in the mornings or water during the day? Are your eyelids red and swollen? Are there flakes or crusts around the roots of your eyelashes? If yes, then you may be suffering from Blepharitis.
Blepharitis is a very common condition and is not serious, but it can cause a lot of discomfort for the sufferer. It is caused by a type of bacteria that naturally occurs on the skin, but occasionally it flares up and causes the patient to become symptomatic.
Our Optometrists at Crown Eyecare are able to diagnose the type of Blepharitis from which you are suffering, and then recommend a suitable treatment to help alleviate the problem. We can also ascertain if there are any other conditions, such as Dry Eye, with quite often co-exist with Blepharitis.
Treatments for Blepharitis vary from specially-formulated lid wipes and lid-cleaning products that can be used at home, to having a BlephEx treatment carried out in the practice. BlephEx is a painless lid-cleaning process. The Optometrist uses a handheld device with a medical-grade, disposable, micro-sponge tip to manually remove the flakes, discard the debris and exfoliate the eyelids. If the type of Blepharitis is Demodex in nature, this can then be followed by a Demodex treatment to further reduce the risk of flare-ups. Some patients are referred for a BlephEx treatment prior to eye surgery procedures, such as cataract extraction, to ensure that their eyelids are clean and free from Blepharitis before the operation.
If you have been diagnosed with Blepharitis, or think that you may be suffering from the symptoms, please contact the practice to book an appointment for an assessment and possible treatment. For further details, please Contact Us.
